my geisha
My Geisha was filmed on location in Japan. Frank Westmore began lab work at Paramount well before he had to travel overseas. He used dental wax and casting plaster to take a series of impressions of actress, Shirley MacLaine's eyes so he could model her Caucasian eye shape into an Oriental shape. After crafting a series of model clay casts, he arrived at the perfect form and the final baked rubber eye pieces.
These rubber eye pieces would be glued with spirit gum onto Shirley's eye lids. An invisible flesh colored tab was glued to her temples that would be pulled back with rubber bands to give the eye a more slanted appearance. Brown contact lenses and a heavy black wig were used in the final makeup.
